USA Gymnastics Sex Abuse Scandal With Larry Nassar

USA Gymnastics severed all ties with Nassar in 2015 “after hearing from athletes concerns”. The Indianapolis Star published in September 2016 the allegations that Nassar had sex abused two former gymnasts. He was reassigned from teaching and clinical duties at Michigan State on September 20, after he was fired by the university. Three former gymnasts, Jessica Howard, Jamie Dantzscher and Jeanette Antolin, spoke out to 60 Minutes about the sexual abuse that Nassar had done to them. The gymnasts claimed that Nassar made use of them at national team training camps in Huntsville, Texas. They were afraid to voice their concerns.

Rachael, one of the first women who publicly accused Nassar in May 2017, stated that Nassar abused her sexually on five doctor visits in 2000, when Rachael was fifteen years old. McKayla Maroney, Olympic gold medalist, claimed that Nasar repeatedly molested the young Olympic gold winner, starting at age 13 and continuing until her retirement in 2016. Maroney filed a suit against Nassar. Maroney also sued Michigan State University. USA Gymnastics was accused of making Maroney sign the $1.25M non-disclosure agreement. Aly Raisman was also quoted as saying that Nassar sexually abused Aly in a 60 Minutes interview. Raisman claimed that Nassar abused her at the age of 15 years. Simone Biles and other Olympic teammates criticized Gabby for tweeting a slur about Raisman. Douglas later apologized and stated that she was also a victim to Nassar’s abuse. Maggie Nichols, an ex-member of the National Team, claimed that Nassar had abused her. She connected with Nassar on Facebook to document the way he “groomed”, complimenting her appearance at numerous times.

Court filings and interviews indicate that Nichols and Sarah Jantzi reported Nassar directly to USA Gymnastics officials in June 2015. They were reportedly overheard Maggie talking to another gymnast about Nassar’s behavior. Simone Biles made it clear that she had also been sexually assaulted by Nassar. Jordyn Wieber was there to give evidence at Nassar’s trial. Conviction for sexual abuse.

Nassar was indicted on felonies at both the federal and state levels. Nassar, who was 6 years old at the time of the crime, was indicted by the state on November 2016. In the end, he was charged in two counties: Ingham County with fifteen and Eaton County with seven. The allegations claimed that Nassar molested seven minor girls while he was providing legitimate treatment at home and at the MSU clinic.

In December 2016, the FBI arrested Nassar following more than 37,000 child pornography images and a clip of Nassar sexually abusing minor girls. [30] His medical license was suspended for three-years on April 6, 2017. On July 11, 2017, Nassar admitted to possessing child pornography and possession of many pornographic images. He also admitted to tampering evidence, having destroyed and hidden the images. U.S. District Judge Janet T. Neffsentenced Nassar on December 7, 2017. He will be placed on supervised release and must register as a sexual offender if he is ever freed. His first release from federal custody is March 23, 2069.

Ingham county circuit court convicted Nassar on November 22 to seven charges of first-degree sexual conduct with minors aged under sixteen. He admitted to molesting seven teenage girls. Three of them were under thirteen years old. On November 29, he was convicted of three additional counts for first-degree criminal sexual misconduct in Eaton County. On 18 January 2018, Nassar was accused of sexual assault by 135 women while working for USA Gymnastics or Michigan State University. The number of women who accused Nassar of sexual assault jumped to 150 the week after. A lawsuit was filed in April 2017 by a woman alleging that Nassar sexually assaulted and raped her in 1992, while she was in medical school. Rosemarie Aquilina, Ingham County Circuit Judge sentenced Nassar in January to 40 to 175years imprisonment for sexual assaulting minors.

This sentence will be pronounced together with any Eaton County Circuit Court sentence. Neff had directed that sentences imposed at the state level should run in conjunction with the federal sentence.
