30 Creative Writing Prompts For Memoir Or Non-Fiction

Everyone gets stuck sometimes. Two main ways I see clients experience this are:

The first is that they will message me and ask, “Elizabeth. You’re supposed to write 2000 word today. And I felt like it. But then, when I checked my wordcount, I was only at 1246. What do I do? What can I do?

They’ll send a second message that sounds like “Elizabeth.

Both cases are valid, and I can assure you that you have something to share. You worry too much about what you say (or how it sounds). This stage is about writing down the stories. The emotions. Points of view.

You are a great person and I am certain that you will not hesitate to share your views on almost any topic. Usually, it is more than 2000 words.

You just need to be asked a question by someone and then have to interrupt them to tell them, “Oh, that’s something I have to say!”

To help you get out your head, I have 30 great writing prompts to share with you.

Start with the one that you can see. You can also start at the bottom. Tell your 6-year old to choose a number between 1-30 and let the universe send you the prompt.

There is no one right or wrong way to do things. Just keep writing:

1. Imagine you have traveled back in time and met a younger version. What lesson/tip/reassurance would you provide to him/her?

2. Tell me about a time in your life when you were afraid of doing something, but still did it. What was your reaction to this experience once you were over it? What would you say to the “after”?

3. What do you know that most people don’t?

4. What are you passionate about in your spare time? What have your experiences been with this hobby or activity?

5. Share your story of when you felt abandoned.

6. What do you notice others doing? Do you think you understand why they do that but would you rather they did it differently if you knew what you know now?
